Mixing the New Music transcendence of the likes of Arvo Part and Gorecki with the sublime and rarified atmospheric territory of Talk Talk, AR Kane and Cocteau Twins, 'Speak' contains tracks dating from the very earliest years of the band (1988-89). An album of densely organic soundscapes, quiet ambition and heartfelt emotionalism, 'Speak' is that rare thing - a work of genuine beauty and substance. Steven and Tim regard it as being amongst their finest work.

This is the original 1993 cassette release of 'Speak' on Hidden Art. It features the original versions of ten of the thirteen tracks on the later CD reissues (with Tim's original vocal parts, sung in a far more dramatic style) including the original versions of Night Sky Sweet Earth and Curtain Dream (both of which were entirely re-recorded in 1999 for subsequent releases). It also features the otherwise unavailable track Desert Heart (which was later substantially rewritten and re-recorded as Close Your Eyes for the 'Returning Jesus' album) and a No-Man cover of the Plenty song Forest Almost Burning (featuring Plenty guitarist Brian Hulse).

This cassette has been deleted and has been superseded by the CD reissues.
